Who We Are
NAMI Dubuque is the local affiliate of the National Alliance on Mental Illness, a non-profit, tax-exempt grassroots organization advocating for all who are affected by mental illness. NAMI advocates for access to services, treatment, and research and is steadfast in its commitment to educate, support, and raise awareness in building a community of hope for those affected by mental illness and their families. NAMI stands firm in its conviction that mental illness should not be an obstacle to a full and meaningful life for persons with mental illness.
What We Do
NAMI works to preserve and strengthen family relationships challenged by severe and persistent mental illness through peer-directed education courses, support-group offerings, and community outreach/awareness programs. NAMI draws on the experiences of those living with mental illness as well as their families and caregivers to eradicate stigma, to effect positive changes in the mental health system, and to increase public and professional understanding of mental illness. Support, Educate, and Advocate. NAMI Dubuque offers support group meetings on the 1st Tuesday of every month and educational meetings on the 3rd Tuesday of every month; these meetings are held at the Schmid Innovation Center, 900 Jackson Street, Dubuque, from 7 to 8 PM. We also offer three different educational courses for persons living with mental illness as well as for family members/caregivers of loved ones with mental illness (Peer-to-Peer, Family-to-Family, NAMI Basics).
