Started in 1999, Dubuque County Early Childhood (DCEC) is a community initiative that supports children age birth to five and their families. DCEC offers a variety of programs/services through its many partnerships. These include grants and professional development for child care providers, family support programs like Parents as Teachers, preschool scholarships, child care nurse consultation, dental health screenings for preschoolers, and Kids Expo events. Through these programs/services, DCEC reaches over 6,000 children annually. DCEC is led through a board of citizen members committed to strengthening early childhood experiences, which is the best way to ensure children's success when starting school and throughout life.
