Volunteer: "Healing Spaces" Paint Days

We’re really excited to finally move forward with something we’ve been wanting to do for a while. We’ll be refreshing the Teresa Shelter to create a space that feels more peaceful, welcoming, and healing for both our residents and staff.

As part of this project, we’ll be:

Repainting the entire shelter Adding a large mural in the back dorm area Updating doors with fresh finishes Deep cleaning and reorganizing spaces Adding simple “wayfinding” signs to help new residents feel more comfortable navigating the building

We are planning to complete this project July 14–16, and we would love your help to make it happen!

Volunteer Opportunities

We’ll have two shifts available each day:

Morning Shift: 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM Afternoon Shift: 1:00 PM – 5:00 PM
(Lunch will not be provided, so please plan accordingly)

Volunteers will help with:

Painting walls and touch-ups Taping and prep work (especially Day 1) General cleaning and organizing Supporting staff with project needs Light moving/resetting of furniture

This project is more than just paint—it’s about creating a space that feels safe, peaceful, and dignified for the women and children we serve every day.

If you’re able to help, even for one shift, we would be so grateful.

Thank you for being part of what we’re building here

Volunteer: Jubeck-A-Palooza 2026

Setup Crew (1:00–3:00 PM)

Want a behind-the-scenes pass to one of Dubuque’s most fun summer parties? Come help us bring Jubeck-A-Palooza 2026 to life before the crowds roll in! Setup volunteers will help with things like putting out tables and chairs, popping up EZ-up tents, setting up the kid zone, organizing supplies, and getting the block party ready for a full day of music, beer, and community. Nothing too intense, but you should be comfortable being on your feet and lifting/carrying light-to-moderate items.

Perks include: Early access before the party starts, being part of the crew that makes the magic happen, and first dibs on soaking in the atmosphere before the crowd arrives.

Wear comfortable clothes and shoes you can move in — this is more “festival work crew” than “winery brunch.” Leave the heels at home.

Tear Down Crew (9:30–11:00 PM)

Every legendary party needs a cleanup crew of absolute champions. Tear down volunteers help wrap up Jubeck-A-Palooza after the music winds down by taking down tents, stacking tables and chairs, cleaning up trash, and helping return the street back to normal. The work honestly goes faster than you’d think when enough people jump in, and it’s a fun way to close out the night with the crew after everyone else heads home.

We expect cleanup will likely finish closer to 10:30 PM, but we’d rather plan for a little extra time just in case. This role is best for people who don’t mind getting a little sweaty, staying moving, and helping us finish strong. No heavy construction work — just good people pitching in together.

Perks include: End-of-night crew camaraderie, helping make a community event possible, that oddly satisfying post-event cleanup energy

Wear comfortable clothes and practical shoes. Again: this is not the event for fancy footwear.

Volunteer: Millwork Night Market - Set Up

If you've ever been to the Millwork Night Market and wondered, "How do they convert this empty brick street into a cute downtown market?!", NOW is your chance to find out! If you've never been to the Millwork Night Market, this is also your chance! Once a month, we invite the community down to Dubuque's Millwork District to enjoy handmade crafts, fresh produce, live music, food trucks, and an array of local beers on tap from 5-8pm. Thousands of people join us on Jackson St (between 7th and 9th streets) to celebrate the 2nd Thursday of the Summer Months (May-October). To make this event possible, and to make sure we have plenty of time, we start setting up at 3pm, which is when we'd like our volunteers to arrive (That's You!) In the past, we've set up the entire market by ourselves. We are super excited to have a little of your help help but more than two volunteers may be too many. That being said, if this sounds like something you'd enjoy, invite a friend and have them sign up as well! There's not a strict dress code or anything, but volunteers should be able to lift and carry up to 25lbs and work on their feet for at least two hours. We invite you to enjoy the fruit of your work by sticking around for the event after your volunteer hours! Please remember to bring a reusable water bottle! The market does not offer disposable water bottles to purchase, but the info booth does have a water bottle refill station!

Volunteer: Millwork Night Market - Tear Down

If you've ever been to the Millwork Night Market and wondered, "How do I get involved with awesome community events like these?", the universe has answered, THIS IS IT! If you haven't been to the Millwork Night Market, you SHOULD! Some of the people who walk in have questions about where the bathrooms are, how to buy beer, or where particular vendors are located. This is where you come in! We are looking for 1-3 volunteer(s) to sit at the Market Info Tent to guide or answer people's questions. That's it. Super easy, right? Any difficult questions or situations can easily be handed to the friendly on-site manger, who you'll meet right away! We typically only NEED one person at the info booth, but if you'd like to bring a friend or two, please have them sign up as well! There's not a strict dress code or anything, but between 5 & 8pm, the temperature does tend to drop. We try to remember a sweatshirt or coat even during the Summer months after having learned that lesson the hard way! Please remember to bring a reusable water bottle if needed, the market does not offer disposable water bottles to purchase, but the info booth has a water refill station!
