Among the many resources available at the Center for Dubuque History is a reference file created by local genealogist Biays Bowerman. This resource is a name index of 27 primary source books and documents including an early census, voter lists, and cemeteries. The indexed materials were created between 1830 and 1917 and are an important resource for finding information on early settlers. This entire project was completed by hand and includes thousands of handwritten index cards which now need to be transcribed into an Excel spreadsheet. This work will need to be done at the CDH, but can be done anytime the Library is open after training. The ability to read cursive will be helpful.
