Description

Due to the recent heavy rains in Northeast Iowa, we are requesting your immediate help in Charles City, IA.

The Cedar River is set to crest in the next 48 hours, and 150 sandbaggers are needed to help prevent the water from reaching homes and businesses.  Volunteers are requested to report to the parking lot behind City Hall (across from Hy-Vee on the corner of Blunt Street and Harwood Drive) in Charles City right now.

Volunteer sandbaggers must be able to:

  • Wear closed toe shoes – preferably ones that will provide good support
  • Stand for long periods of time
  • Be able to lift a minimum of 40 pounds

If you are able to mobilize and aide in these efforts, please report to the parking lot behind City Hall in Charles City immediately.

Lastly, as the river will crest in other communities as well, please check with your local volunteer center if you live in or nearby a community where the Cedar River could affect your area to find out if other efforts to mobilize volunteers are happening or about to happen.
