Opportunities From: Volunteer DBQ

Do you have a green thumb? If gardening is your passion and you like to play in the dirt, you can help us with planting, watering, weeding, and pruning. We are looking for volunteers who want to garden and nurture it throughout the growing season. We have a quarter acre garden that needs tending to throughout the summer. This garden helps supply families that are in need with fresh produce throughout the summer and fall. If you have any interest please reach out to Catholic Charities at 563.556.5125.

Individuals released from jail or prison often return to their communities with no employment, home, or support system. Through a vast network of volunteer mentors and support circles, Catholic Charities’ Jail & Prison reentry program supports these individuals as they work toward positive re-entry into family and community life.

Circles provide a healthy and supportive relationship between the individual reentering society and the community, opening an avenue for the restoration and healing of all people impacted by crime. Circles of Support allow for larger groups to meet with one client and assist him/her in meeting their goals after being released from incarceration.

Volunteer mentors meet weekly with participants to provide the needed support to resist relapse into old habits and lifestyles.  Mentors are trusted guides who embody acceptance and encouragement. Mentors help participants establish positive relationships, experience healthy social activities, and connect with community resources that can aid in finding work and affordable housing, as well as meeting basic needs.
