Opportunities From: Volunteer DBQ

Volunteers will restock apparel, sort through donated items, hang and fold clothes. Volunteer hours are Tuesday-Thursday, 8:30-11:30 a.m. Time commitment will vary by individual with volunteers working 3 hours per day.

Most volunteers come in one day a week for just a wonderful, uplifting experience! Come in and check us out!

During a public shopping event, volunteers keep the area looking good. We remove empty hangers, rearrange displays, and bag the shoppers' clothing. We assist shoppers with selection, if needed. Individuals and groups of all ages are welcome to help.

Family Promise of Grant County relies on compassionate volunteers to help provide a safe, welcoming environment for families experiencing homelessness. Because we operate a rotational shelter model, families stay at different host sites in Lancaster, Platteville, and Montfort on a weekly basis.

Host site volunteers may choose from a variety of roles, including:

No special experience is required—just a caring heart and a willingness to help. Training is provided, and volunteers can serve as often or as little as their schedules allow. Together, our volunteers help families feel supported, valued, and hopeful as they work toward stable housing.

Take the stage as an actor at The Grand Opera House, the oldest surviving community theatre in the Dubuque area! Our seasons include several plays and musicals that are performed entirely by community members. Throughout the year, we offer opportunities for performers of all ages to participate in our productions.

Auditions are hosted periodically throughout the season, typically 5 to 7 weeks prior to a show's opening. Performance experience is not a requirement to participate on stage at The Grand. Anyone in the community is welcome to audition for our shows!

Looking for ways to get involved in community theatre without having to be on stage? Join us at The Grand Opera House as an usher and/or behind the concessions stand! All community members are welcome to participate in either of these roles, regardless of how much (or how little) theatre experience you may have. 

When volunteering in either of these capacities, you'll receive  some exclusive perks! You will be invited to watch performances free of charge. On top of this, you'll also receive reduced prices on items from our concessions stand.

These opportunities are a great way to connect with the community. Under the leadership of experienced staff members, you'll be playing an important role in providing our patrons a Grand experience.

Community Outreach & Resource Distribution Volunteer

Help us increase awareness of recovery support services throughout our community. Volunteers assist by distributing and restocking brochures, flyers, and informational materials at local hospitals, doctor's offices, churches, community organizations, and other partner locations. This role is ideal for individuals who enjoy connecting with community members, building relationships, and helping ensure that people know where to find support when they need it.

Responsibilities may include:

• Delivering and restocking brochures and flyers at designated locations

• Building positive relationships with community partners

• Identifying new opportunities for outreach and resource distribution

• Representing the organization in a professional and welcoming manner

Looking for a way to get involved in theatre that doesn't require being on stage? Join us at The Grand Opera House as a Backstage Crew Volunteer! We have lots of different areas that community members can make significant contributions to our productions from behind the scenes. You can contribute to set construction/painting, costume construction, creating props, and more!

If you've ever been to the Millwork Night Market and wondered, "How do they convert this empty brick street into a cute downtown market?!", NOW is your chance to find out! If you've never been to the Millwork Night Market, this is also your chance! Once a month, we invite the community down to Dubuque's Millwork District to enjoy handmade crafts, fresh produce, live music, food trucks, and an array of local beers on tap from 5-8pm. Thousands of people join us on Jackson St (between 7th and 9th streets) to celebrate the 2nd Thursday of the Summer Months (May-October). To make this event possible, and to make sure we have plenty of time, we start setting up at 3pm, which is when we'd like our volunteers to arrive (That's You!) In the past, we've set up the entire market by ourselves. We are super excited to have a little of your help help but more than two volunteers may be too many. That being said, if this sounds like something you'd enjoy, invite a friend and have them sign up as well! There's not a strict dress code or anything, but volunteers should be able to lift and carry up to 25lbs and work on their feet for at least two hours. We invite you to enjoy the fruit of your work by sticking around for the event after your volunteer hours! Please remember to bring a reusable water bottle! The market does not offer disposable water bottles to purchase, but the info booth does have a water bottle refill station!

If you've ever been to the Millwork Night Market and wondered, "How do I get involved with awesome community events like these?", the universe has answered, THIS IS IT! If you haven't been to the Millwork Night Market, you SHOULD! Once a month, we invite the community down to Dubuque's Millwork District to enjoy handmade crafts, fresh produce, live music, food trucks, and an array of local beers on tap from 5-8pm. Thousands of people join us on Jackson St (between 7th and 9th streets) to celebrate the 2nd Thursday of the Summer Months (May-October). Some of the people who walk in have questions about where the bathrooms are, how to buy beer, or where particular vendors are located. This is where you come in! We are looking for 1-3 volunteer(s) to sit at the Market Info Tent to guide or answer people's questions. That's it. Super easy, right? Any difficult questions or situations can easily be handed to the friendly on-site manger, who you'll meet right away! We typically only NEED one person at the info booth, but if you'd like to bring a friend or two, please have them sign up as well! There's not a strict dress code or anything, but between 5 & 8pm, the temperature does tend to drop. We try to remember a sweatshirt or coat even during the Summer months after having learned that lesson the hard way! Please remember to bring a reusable water bottle if needed, the market does not offer disposable water bottles to purchase, but the info booth has a water refill station!

The Dubuque Area Labor Harvest packs and gives out a food box to families on the 2nd Saturday of every month from 7:30am - 9:30am. We also serve breakfast on every Saturday there is no food giveaway from 7am - 8:30am!

We are looking for volunteers to help with packing food boxes, food giveaways, and breakfasts! Volunteers can be age 16 or older and must be accompanied by an adult.
