Opportunities From: Volunteer DBQ

DBQ Pride is looking for volunteers to help throughout the DBQ Pride Festival! Volunteers will be needed to walk around the area, answer questions, pick up garbage, change garbage bags, check on vendor booths, hand out water, etc. 

Standing, walking, and some lifting will be required. The festival will be outdoors. 

Volunteers under age 18 are welcome! Under age 16 will require parent/guardian supervision. Anyone under the age of 18 must have a parent/guardian sign a Volunteer Release and Liability Waiver. 

Volunteers will get a t-shirt and a $10 food ticket. Please indicate shirt size in comments when responding to this opportunity. 

Take the stage as an actor at The Grand Opera House, the oldest surviving community theatre in the Dubuque area! Our seasons include several plays and musicals that are performed entirely by community members. Throughout the year, we offer opportunities for performers of all ages to participate in our productions.

Auditions are hosted periodically throughout the season, typically 5 to 7 weeks prior to a show's opening. Performance experience is not a requirement to participate on stage at The Grand. Anyone in the community is welcome to audition for our shows!

Looking for a way to get involved in theatre that doesn't require being on stage? Join us at The Grand Opera House as a Backstage Crew Volunteer! We have lots of different areas that community members can make significant contributions to our productions from behind the scenes. You can contribute to set construction/painting, costume construction, creating props, and more!

We received a large number of used bricks from the arboretum.   We want to create a paver pathway into the orchard.   We have the materials and and expert to guide the volunteers.   We just need people to help!   We will be creating this pathway on Saturday, June 13 beginning at 8:30 am.   Do you want to help?  Do you have a church group, scout troop, work team, family group or other team that wants to help you?  You can sign up as an individual or as a team.  

Volunteers will restock apparel, sort through donated items, hang and fold clothes. Volunteer hours are Tuesday-Thursday, 8:30-11:30 a.m. Time commitment will vary by individual with volunteers working 3 hours per day.

Most volunteers come in one day a week for just a wonderful, uplifting experience! Come in and check us out!

During a public shopping event, volunteers keep the area looking good. We remove empty hangers, rearrange displays, and bag the shoppers' clothing. We assist shoppers with selection, if needed. Individuals and groups of all ages are welcome to help.

Stationed along the floodwall between AY McDonald Park and 16th Street, the Welcome Team will congratulate riders after they dip, help with any directions they might need, and provide input on things to see and do in Dubuque and more. You will be serving as a community cheerleader!

Assist vehicles using long term parking (former Dubuque Pack Site on 16th Street) with getting their cars unloaded at McAleece Park for camping or charter load in,  moved to long term parking, placed into parking spot at long term parking; provide shuttle information to get from long term parking to campgrounds or to their hotels.

Assist those staying in the campgrounds with community information. Trolleys will be running specified routes to take individuals to the Historic Millwork District, Downtown Dubuque, Port of Dubuque, Casinos and more; provide shuttle time information (which will be provided), provide community information on your favorite places to visit, promote local businesses. 

This opportunity will be wheelchair accessible; tent to be placed on pavement area; may have to travel across some grass/uneven ground. There will be shade under pop up tents.

Assist RAGBRAI riders by taking their photograph (with their provided camera) at the dip site; assist with holding items while pictures are taken. 

Dip site will be at the AY McDonald Park - Boat Ramp

Because of the slope of the boat ramp, wheelchairs are not recommended.

Join us in celebrating International Day of Play on June 11th from 5pm -7pm! This global day highlights the importance of play in children’s development, well-being, and community connection. We’re hosting a fun-filled outdoor event for hundreds of local kids and families, featuring simple, creative, and active play experiences.

We’re looking for enthusiastic volunteers to help set up, lead activities, and create a joyful, welcoming environment where kids can explore, imagine, and just be kids. Whether you love working with children or just want to give back to the community, we’d love to have you join us!

If you've ever been to the Millwork Night Market and wondered, "How do I get involved with awesome community events like these?", the universe has answered, THIS IS IT! If you haven't been to the Millwork Night Market, you SHOULD! Once a month, we invite the community down to Dubuque's Millwork District to enjoy handmade crafts, fresh produce, live music, food trucks, and an array of local beers on tap from 5-8pm. Thousands of people join us on Jackson St (between 7th and 9th streets) to celebrate the 2nd Thursday of the Summer Months (May-October). Some of the people who walk in have questions about where the bathrooms are, how to buy beer, or where particular vendors are located. This is where you come in! We are looking for 1-3 volunteer(s) to sit at the Market Info Tent to guide or answer people's questions. That's it. Super easy, right? Any difficult questions or situations can easily be handed to the friendly on-site manger, who you'll meet right away! We typically only NEED one person at the info booth, but if you'd like to bring a friend or two, please have them sign up as well! There's not a strict dress code or anything, but between 5 & 8pm, the temperature does tend to drop. We try to remember a sweatshirt or coat even during the Summer months after having learned that lesson the hard way! Please remember to bring a reusable water bottle if needed, the market does not offer disposable water bottles to purchase, but the info booth has a water refill station!

Thousands of people join us on Jackson St (between 7th and 9th streets) to celebrate the 2nd Thursday of the Summer Months (May-October). To make this event possible, and to make sure we have plenty of time, we start setting up at 3pm, which is when we'd like our volunteers to arrive (That's You!) In the past, we've set up the entire market by ourselves. We are super excited to have a little of your help help but more than two volunteers may be too many. That being said, if this sounds like something you'd enjoy, invite a friend and have them sign up as well! There's not a strict dress code or anything, but volunteers should be able to lift and carry up to 25lbs and work on their feet for at least two hours. We invite you to enjoy the fruit of your work by sticking around for the event after your volunteer hours! Please remember to bring a reusable water bottle! Looking for ways to get involved in community theatre without having to be on stage? Join us at The Grand Opera House as an usher and/or behind the concessions stand! All community members are welcome to participate in either of these roles, regardless of how much (or how little) theatre experience you may have. 

When volunteering in either of these capacities, you'll receive  some exclusive perks! You will be invited to watch performances free of charge. On top of this, you'll also receive reduced prices on items from our concessions stand.

These opportunities are a great way to connect with the community. Under the leadership of experienced staff members, you'll be playing an important role in providing our patrons a Grand experience.

The Dubuque Area Labor Harvest packs and gives out a food box to families on the 2nd Saturday of every month from 7:30am - 9:30am. We also serve breakfast on every Saturday there is no food giveaway from 7am - 8:30am!

We are looking for volunteers to help with packing food boxes, food giveaways, and breakfasts! Volunteers can be age 16 or older and must be accompanied by an adult.
