Opening Doors is the nonprofit organization that operates the Teresa Shelter and Maria House. Homeless women, alone or with children, come to us to help rebuild their lives. We provide goal-setting and life skills training that will enable them to take care of themselves and achieve their full potential. We strive to assist women in achieving self-sufficiency and independence when they leave our program. The Teresa Shelter provides emergency and extended stay programs. Women may stay for up to 30 days in emergency shelter and if they qualify, may stay in extended stay for 6 months to 1 year. The Maria House offers transitional housing opportunities for women, alone or with children, to stay up to 2 years if they meet the requirements.
Volunteers play an integral role in our mission achievement. We have various programs and committees that are in need of volunteer assistance. Fundraising events, child care, ride connect, office assistance, and Maria House coverage are some of the various ways that volunteers can be involved with Opening Doors.
