Parents, caregivers, and community members are invited to a free educational event to learn how to spot substance abuse in tweens and teens.
“Spotting Substance Abuse in Tweens & Teens” will take place on Monday, May 20 from 6 PM to 7 PM at Dubuque, Esports League, 3220 Dodge Street, Suite 109, Dubuque, IA 52003. This informative session will be led by Christina Mensinger-Skiles, BA, CPS with the Area Substance Abuse Council, a local expert on youth substance abuse.
This event is being hosted by Dubuque Esports League since physical and mental wellness is a pillar in their nonprofit mission to provide opportunities for youth and young adults to use esports as a platform to develop STEM-based skills, grow in their social-emotional attributes and characteristics, discover career pathways, and enhance skills needed to thrive in work and life.
During the event, attendees will learn:
- The warning signs of substance abuse in teens and tweens
- The different types of substances teens and tweens may abuse
- How to talk to your child about substance abuse
- Local resources available to help teens and families struggling with substance abuse
