Volunteers turn out in droves in the wake of a major disaster. Volunteer Reception Centers (VRC) are critical in managing spontaneous volunteers in any emergency/disaster response. The VRC assists in turning spontaneous volunteers into a united force and are crucial in avoiding a disaster within a disaster. Disaster can happen at any time, anywhere and can range from storms and inclement weather to flooding. An event next week aims to provide preparation for just such an occasion.
The Dubuque County Community Organization Active in Disaster will host a volunteer reception center training from 12-2 P.M. Friday, September 13th, at Jule Operations and Training Center, 94 Kerper Boulevard in Dubuque.
The public is invited to attend the free event. Residents are asked to RSVP by sending an email to Jessica.Bleile@dbqunitedway.org.
