Women UNITED will sponsor “Read across America” activities in the following Dubuque elementary schools on March 2, 2017:
- Marshall School (Grades K – 5)
- Columbkille Catholic (Grades K – 2)
- Anthony Catholic (Grades K – 2)
- Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic (Grades K – 2)
- Holy Ghost Catholic (Grades K – 2)
All activities will be Dr. Seuss themed, in honor of his birthday! Volunteers will read “The Cat in the Hat” and lead related activities for those in Grades K – 2, with “Oh, the Places You’ll Go” being used in Grades 4 – 5. Each child will be given a Dr. Seuss bookmark, and there will be a drawing for a Dr. Seuss book in each classroom. Additional game prizes will be provided.
For Marshall School, volunteers are requested for 45-minute sessions within the following time ranges, with Women UNITED to provide specific times prior to March 2. Marshall School has designated March 2 as a stripes and/or a favorite hat day, so volunteers are encouraged (but not required) to wear one or both.
Kindergarten 9:00 – 11:15
- 1st Grade 9:00 – 11:40
- 2nd Grade 11:50 – 2:10
- 3rd Grade 12:40 – 2:30
- 4th Grade 9:00 – 11:45
- 5th Grade 9:40 – 10:55
For St. Columbkille Catholic, volunteers are requested for 30-minute sessions within the following time ranges, also providing specific times prior to March 2.
- K (Ms. Cole) 1:15 – 1:45
- K (Mrs. Johnson) 1:30 – 2:30
- 1st Grade (Mrs. Burke) 1:30 – 2:00 or 2:30 – 3:00
- 1st Grade (Mrs. Weig) 2:00 – 3:00
- 2nd Grade (Mrs. Colbert) 2:00 – 3:00
- 2nd Grade (Mrs. Krueger) 2:00 – 3:00
*****Time frames for St. Anthony, Our Lady of Guadalupe, and Holy Ghost are being determined and should be available soon.
There will be additional information provided to the volunteers (i.e., specific activities) at least a week prior to March 2.
