Dubuque, Iowa – The Multicultural Family Center (MFC), University of Dubuque, Clarke University, Loras College and Divine Word College are collaborating to host the 8th annual “Celebrate Africa & the Diaspora” event on Saturday, April 15, from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Celebrate Africa & the Diaspora is an all-inclusive, free, family event with music, dancing, educational displays, fashion show, resource booths, vendors, and a sampling of African food. All community members are welcome and encouraged to attend. The event will take place at the Multicultural Family Center (MFC), 1157 Central Avenue in Dubuque, Iowa.
“This annual event has presented a platform for people in Dubuque to learn, connect and celebrate diversity and inclusiveness,” said Dr. Mary Gitau, Dubuque community member originally from Kenya. Dr. Gitau is the event co-founder and an associate professor at Clarke University.
Dr.Gitau met Sarah Petersen, MFC Assistant Director, in 2015 and together, they created the event. “The event has grown annually thanks to partnerships with local universities and colleges” said Petersen, “it is a favorite cultural community event filled with great entertainment, food and people.”
